Austrian-born, Scotland-made

Under previous project "NANI", Nani Porenta built a considerable catalogue of releases over the past few establishing herself in Scotland's music scene, frequently collaborating with artists like Jacob Alon, Lewis McLaughlin & Katie Gregson-MacLeod. Her previous EPs received airplay on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC 6 Music, with the track "Sunshine" being featured on BBC Introducing's Hot List.

Spending the past two years working on new material, Nani realised she was aiming for a fresh start. This new music features a sound much closer to her heart & with a much more personal feel.

Her two latest singles, “Never Be Alone” & “Memory Loss”, served as bookends to her most recent EP, “South Clerk St Demos”.

“Never Be Alone”, is a song written for her baby niece, and in a way, her younger self. It's an ode to hope & softness. Nani says, "The world often drives us into the arms of cynicism, and we need to remind ourselves that there's so much to be hopeful & joyful for. And I want to do better for my niece & for my younger self. " The song itself is very playful, representing her niece's view of the world.

“Memory Loss” provides a much darker sound, It is a story of subjectivity, perspective, and perception. How you can spend the same day with someone but have two completely different versions of events. It calls into question what defines reality and who gets to judge what is real & true, and what isn’t. All wrapped up in distorted folklore imagery.

Rather than over-polishing the release, Nani chose to share the EP simply and honestly. “I didn’t want to ruin the songs by turning them into a commodity,” she says. “I was really proud of them at that point in time, and I just wanted to put them out while that feeling was still intact.”

The whole EP is written & produced entirely by Nani.
